Pool Heat Exchanger OVB 250 (73 kW)
The OVB 250 pool heat exchanger is designed for extremely powerful heating of swimming pool water and hot tubs. Made of stainless steel AISI 316, it offers excellent corrosion resistance and long service life even under intensive operating conditions. It is suitable for use with gas boilers, heat pumps, and solar collectors and is intended for installations with very high performance requirements.
Not suitable for saltwater pools!
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Heating capacity | 73 kW |
| Material | Stainless steel AISI 316 |
| Pool circuit connection | 1 1/2" female thread |
| Heating circuit connection | 3/4" female thread |
| Application | Swimming pools and hot tubs (chlorinated water) |
Practical note: Although the OVB 250 is officially rated for pools up to 80 m³, in real-life installations we most often use it for pools of approximately 20–40 m³. Typical heating systems rarely achieve ideal temperature gradients and flow rates, so this sizing ensures reliable performance and a large power reserve.
Pool specialist opinion – review
- + Extremely high output – suitable for very demanding installations
- + AISI 316 stainless steel – maximum corrosion resistance
- + Ideal for powerful heat sources (boiler, heat pump, solar systems)
- + Large performance reserve even under non-ideal conditions
- − Requires a precisely designed by-pass and sufficient flow rate
- - NOT SUITABLE FOR SALTWATER POOLS – CHOOSE A TITANIUM HEAT EXCHANGER!
“OVB 250 is a truly powerful heat exchanger, but paper ratings rarely reflect real conditions. That is why we mainly use it for pools around 20–40 m³, where it offers a huge performance reserve and works reliably even with lower temperature differences and limited flow rates.”

OVB 250 heat exchanger – maximum performance without compromise
The OVB 250 heat exchanger is designed for extremely powerful heating of swimming pool water and hot tubs. With a heating capacity of 73 kW, it belongs among the strongest models of the OVB range and is intended for installations with very high performance and fast heating requirements.
It is most commonly used for pool heating with:
- gas boilers
- heat pumps
- solar collectors
Stainless steel AISI 316 ensures excellent corrosion resistance and long service life even under continuous heavy-duty operation.
Realistic sizing – experience from practice
The manufacturer states that the OVB 250 is suitable for pools up to 80 m³. In real installations, however, ideal temperature gradients and flow rates are rarely achieved.
For this reason, we most often recommend the OVB 250 for pools with a volume of approximately 20–40 m³, where it provides a substantial performance reserve and stable operation even under non-ideal heating conditions.
How the heat exchanger works
Inside the exchanger body is a bundle of thin-walled tubes through which heating water flows (primary circuit). Pool water (secondary circuit) flows around these tubes. Heat transfer through the tube walls ensures fast and efficient pool heating. Once the desired temperature is reached, heating is switched off via a thermostat or control automation.

Why water quality is critical
With such a high-performance heat exchanger, water quality has a major impact on service life. Correct pH levels, evenly distributed chlorine dosing, and fully functional filtration significantly extend the lifetime of the exchanger and protect the entire pool system.

Operating conditions and recommendations (installer experience)
- Regularly check pool water pH (ideally daily).
- Adjust the by-pass to ensure the recommended flow rate through the exchanger.
- Avoid localized chemical dosing at a single point.
Commissioning
Before start-up, check:
- All connections are tight and leak-free.
- The exchanger is properly mounted.
- The heating circuit is filled and vented.
- Functional 30 mA residual current protection (RCD).
Connecting the OVB 250 heat exchanger
Secondary circuit: 1 1/2" female thread – always use brass fittings.
Primary circuit: 3/4" female thread.
Package contents
- Heat exchanger body
- 2× wall mounting brackets
- 2× clamps
