Winterising pool water, pipework and equipment
Preparing for frost involves both water care and protecting individual pool components. A winterising chemical does not replace draining or another prescribed method of protecting the pump, filter and pipework.
Closing return inlets and protecting the skimmer
The white 1½″ return inlet plug with seal closes a matching threaded connection. The skimmer expansion plug has two threaded ends, 1½″ and 2″. These are different components, selected to match the return inlet or skimmer design.
A procedure to suit the pool construction
The pool manufacturer and pipework protection method determine the winter water level. Do not automatically drain the pool halfway or empty it completely. Remove water from pipes and equipment, or protect them by another method specified in the installation instructions. Blowing out lines requires a suitable procedure and controlled pressure.
The filter, multiport valve, heat pump and measuring probes each have their own shutdown instructions. Valve position and probe storage solution cannot be generalised across all models.
Clean and treat the water before winter according to the chosen product. Base the dose on the volume actually left in the pool. During winter, monitor the cover and water level after rainfall.
Use biocides safely. Always read the label and product information before use.
