Filter media to meet the vessel's requirements
The specified grain size, material and quantity are the basic selection criteria. The filter manufacturer determines these according to the vessel and lateral design.
Sand and alternative media
Fine sand 0.3–0.8 mm is sold in 25 kg packs. It must suit the particular filter and specified layering. Do not choose media that are too fine simply in the expectation of trapping more dirt.
Zeolite 1–2.5 mm is offered in 20 kg packs. When changing materials, the quantity and backwashing method are not automatically taken from the original sand. The same applies to filter balls.
Maintenance and replacement
Backwashing and cleaning follow the filter and media instructions. Poor filtration may relate to media condition, flow or damaged laterals. Replacement timing depends on use and the manufacturer's recommendations, rather than one interval for every system.
