Pool specialist opinion – review

  • + Very high output – universal application
  • + AISI 316 stainless steel – long service life and durability
  • + Ideal for boilers, heat pumps, and solar systems
  • + Excellent performance reserve for standard installations
  • − Requires a properly designed by-pass and flow control
  • - NOT SUITABLE FOR SALTWATER POOLS – CHOOSE A TITANIUM HEAT EXCHANGER!

“We consider the OVB 300 our standard heat exchanger for most pools. We use it on virtually all types of installations around 25–45 m³, where it operates reliably and provides an ideal power reserve even under less-than-perfect conditions.”

OVB 300 heat exchanger – the standard among pool heat exchangers

The OVB 300 heat exchanger is designed for very powerful and long-term stable heating of swimming pool water and hot tubs. With a heating capacity of 88 kW, it belongs among the strongest models in the OVB range, yet in real installations it is most commonly used as a universal solution.

It is most commonly used for pool heating with:

  • gas boilers
  • heat pumps
  • solar collectors

Stainless steel AISI 316 ensures high corrosion resistance and long service life even during everyday operation.

Realistic sizing – why OVB 300 is the “standard”

The manufacturer specifies the OVB 300 for pools up to 100 m³. In real-world installations, however, ideal conditions are rarely achieved – temperature differences are lower and flow rates are often limited.

For this reason, we consider the OVB 300 a standard heat exchanger and most often install it on pools with a volume of approximately 25–45 m³. In this range, it offers an optimal combination of performance, reserve, and long-term reliability.

How the heat exchanger works

Inside the exchanger body is a bundle of thin-walled tubes through which heating water flows (primary circuit). Pool water (secondary circuit) flows around these tubes. Heat transfer through the tube walls enables fast and even pool heating. Once the set temperature is reached, heating is switched off via a thermostat or control automation.

Why water quality is critical

With a high-performance exchanger such as the OVB 300, water quality has a crucial impact on service life. Proper pH levels, evenly distributed chlorine dosing, and fully functional filtration significantly extend the lifetime of the exchanger and protect the entire pool system.

Operating conditions and recommendations (installer experience)

  • Regularly check pool water pH (ideally daily).
  • Adjust the by-pass to ensure correct flow through the exchanger.
  • Avoid localized chemical dosing in a single point.

Commissioning

Before start-up, check:

  • All connections are tight and leak-free.
  • The exchanger is properly mounted.
  • The heating circuit is filled and vented.
  • Functional 30 mA residual current protection (RCD).

Connecting the OVB 300 heat exchanger

Secondary circuit: 1 1/2" female thread – always use brass fittings.

Primary circuit: 3/4" female thread.

Package contents
