PVC couplings for joining pipes and threaded components
A coupling joins two sections of pipework in a straight line. Solvent-weld versions are used for PVC pipes, while threaded versions join threaded components. Combination adapters provide a transition between the two.
Which type of coupling do you need?
A 50 mm solvent-weld coupling joins two PVC pipes with an outside diameter of 50 mm. Both pipes insert into the coupling and are bonded with adhesive intended for PVC pipework. This is a permanent joint; use a union if you need to disconnect the pipework for maintenance.
A 1½″ female-threaded coupling joins two components with matching male threads. A 50 mm/1½″ adapter provides a transition from solvent-weld pipework to a threaded connection.
Frequently asked questions
What does 50 mm mean on a solvent-weld coupling?
The outside diameter of the pipe that inserts into it. The coupling itself is wider on the outside.
Can I disconnect a solvent-weld coupling during a repair?
A solvent-weld joint is not normally dismantled. Replacing a damaged section usually involves cutting out the joint and allowing space for a new connection.
